On this week’s show, we welcomed back New York City-based Karen Haglof, to celebrate the release of her new album Tobiano. Karen’s had an interesting and varied career, to be sure. She’s been a chef, she’s a physician, and she’s an equestrian. As if that weren’t enough for a couple of lifetimes, she’s also a singer/songwriter/guitarist. She’s been quite prolific as of late. We spoke to her last August about her 4 song EP, Palomino Steady Rocking, which was written and produced at about the same time as Tobiano, but thematically, they seemed like two separate pieces of work. And I benefited–because I got to have Karen on the show twice!

Tobiano is a rocker, with some Americana roots. The songs often allude to relationships, and the feelings that go along with them. Karen’s got a knack for great song titles too–many of them are quite playful, such as Hemdrix (sic) and Idk-Top 1000. And the leadoff/title track, Tobiano Twirl, certainly got my attention, for obvious reasons. The album sounds great–Karen’s strong vocals and crack guitar playing shine through, and she’s got an excellent band to help bring her vision to life. Find out more at www.karenhaglof.com.

I also busted out a whole bunch more new 2019 music on this week’s show, and noted that this weekend was a good time to be a music fan in Northern California. A couple of great shows happened in San Francisco and Sacramento, and I played songs from the headlining artists. The San Francisco show featured Trip Wire and The Bobbleheads, and the Sacramento show featured Anton Barbeau and The Corner Laughers.
