Twirl Radio Playlist – Show #778 – 4/29/2017: Kim Rancourt interview!

Kim Rancourt

On today’s show, we met the legendary Kim Rancourt. Kim’s a great songwriter who loves finding the hidden little stories in New York City. If you’re there, he’ll give you a tour of the city–as seen through his lens. But if you’re not, you’ll want to listen to his album Plum Plum as soon as it comes out in May–you’ll hear little slices of city life, thanks to Kim. It’s raw, garagey, and generally a rockin’ good time. His producer, Don Fleming, assembled an all-star band for this one–including members of Sonic Youth and Blue Oyster Cult! Twirl Radio Playlist – Show #777 – 4/22/2017: Jason Falkner interview!

Jason Falkner and R. Stevie Moore

On today’s show, we interviewed the legendary musician/producer Jason Falkner. Not only was he a founding member of Jellyfish, and a member of Paisley Underground band The Three O’Clock, he is a member of Beck’s touring band. He’s also responsible for some fine solo albums of his own. Most recently, he collaborated with lo-fi pioneer R. Stevie Moore on an amazing album called “Make It Be”. It’s the perfect blend of Stevie’s eccentric songwriting and Jason’s polished arrangements and production, although as we learn in the interview, Jason’s got his eccentric moments too–they’re just buried a little lower in the mix! The album rocks hard and has its idosyncratic moments–but there is always that mutual respect, where the duo gives each other room to shine, while playing to each other’s strengths. I highly recommond you pick this one up. jasonfalkner.net www.rsteviemoore.com

Twirl Radio Playlist – Show #776 – 4/15/2017: Sean O’Brien interview!

Sean O’Brien

San Francisco Bay Area musician Sean O’Brien returned to the show today! It had been a couple of years since our last in-person visit, and he did not disappoint. He brought along a couple of new albums that he and his band, “Sean O’Brien and His Dirty Hands” have released in this still-young year of 2017–so we heard several of those new songs. He also treated us to a fiery live version of his song “Shadow Sharks”–which was exceptionally (and deservedly) well-received by listeners from California to Australia. Sean got his start back in the early 1980s, where he was connected to the Davis, CA branch of the Paisley Underground scene. Today, he’s on virtually every who’s who list of Bay Area musicians–there’s pretty much one degree of separation (or fewer) to anybody you can think of there. Check out his music at www.seanobmusic.com.

Twirl Radio Playlist – Show #775 – 4/8/2017: Lindsay Murray of Gretchen’s Wheel interview!

Lindsay Murray

It’s hard to believe that it’s only been a little over a year that I’ve known Lindsay Murray, but in that time, she’s sent me three albums of top notch rock and roll. Ranging from alternative to power pop, Gretchen’s Wheel is right in my, er, wheelhouse! The recent Twirlie Award winner for Female Vocalist of the Year is also an accomplished lyricist and guitarist, and has done a fine job in producing her three albums. The newest release, Sad Scientist, is the most advanced and rocking album of the three. It showcases her impressive musicianship, and she teams up with some great collaborators from around the country. I would put this album on your must-have list! www.gretchenswheel.com

Twirl Radio Playlist – Show #774 – 4/1/2017: Daniel Trigger interview!

Daniel Trigger

On today’s show, we welcomed British melodic hard rocker Daniel Trigger! His songs are pretty fantastic, and his soaring vocals make him a one of a kind presence. This was the first time he’s been on Twirl, and it was a live chat–all the way from Sacramento to the UK! Daniel made five of his acoustic rock demos available as an EP called “Right Turn”, and is kind enough to donate the proceeds to Marie Curie Cancer Care, a really worthy organization. Here’s some more info on Daniel, and you can purchase the EP right here: danieltrigger.bandcamp.com.
